Morgana Harmon, Rosaline William, Lorin Freeman

Abstract

Technology has the potential to improve the quality of life and improve the health and performance of elderly people with disabilities. One of the new ways to use technology to improve the quality of life and the ability of the elderly is to use virtual reality and games, which, in addition to providing rehabilitation capabilities and the kinetic and functional activities required by them, it also provides them in these capabilities in their homes and eliminates the need to go to clinics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the application of virtual reality systems and video games based on rehabilitation and improving the elderly's disabilities. Using virtual reality technology and video games based on this, has a positive effect on the improvement and modification of traditional rehabilitation interventions and will play a much more significant role in the treatment, education, and rehabilitation of elderly people with disabilities in future. Of course, further research is required on the characteristics of the visual systems, the differences between the virtual reality systems used in the rehabilitation clinic and the home, as well as the necessary features of video games designed for people with special disabilities.
