The Increase of Dynamic Stability of the Power System by Using a Fuzzy Logic Based System Stabilizer

Kayla Power, Peyton Hillam

Abstract

The power system is a dynamic system and is constantly exposed to disturbances. It is important that these disturbances do not make the system unstable. For this purpose, additional signals obtained from deviation, deviation of stimulation and acceleration power are transmitted to the voltage regulators. The device provides these signals as system stabilizers. The use of power system stabilizer has become very popular in operating large electrical power systems. The typical PSS shows a poor performance under different loading conditions. Therefore, it is very difficult to design a stabilizer that can provide good performance at all points of electrical power systems operation. Trying to cover a wide range of operational conditions, fuzzy logic control is suggested as a possible solution to this problem. Consequently, by avoiding a complex mathematical model, linguistic information is used while good performance can be obtained under different operating conditions.
