Carl Merritt, Corina Fleming, Conway Christopherson

Abstract

Entry into the University is a very sensitive period that affects the health of individuals which by changing the environment from home to university, anxiety and social dysfunction follow that affects the well-being of individuals. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 120 students in 2014. The tool was the GHCl-28 questionnaire. The findings showed that physical condition, anxiety and social functioning of the new students were received an average score of 1.78, 2.4, 5.52, respectively which is considered a desirable condition. The multivariate aggression showed anxiety and disorder in social function (0.39 and 0.19 respectively) can predict 20.7% of the physical condition. Changing life environment causes extensive changes in the social and psychological environment of students. The increase of anxiety and disorder in social functioning can affect the physical condition of individuals and cause psychosomatic symptoms. Longitudinal studies are essential for examining psychological adjustment and non-adjustment processes of new students.
