Information Visualization and areas of applying them in the field of Knowledge and Information Science

Abstract

Target: A visualization is a new approach that provides the ability to make data-based decisions more swiftly, accurately and along with less cognitive effort and decreases the need for training to understand information. Visualization is an effective and practical tool which is connected to the field of knowledge and information science and it is essential to pay a special attention to it. Therefore, the current research was carried out in order to investigate the fields of applying Visualization technics in the area of Knowledge and Information Science Methodology: the present research has been conducted by using library method and seeking resources and relevant references associated with exploration techniques with studying the literature of Visualization and exploring its privileges. Findings: About the areas of applying visualization in the fields related to Knowledge and Information Science, it was concluded that this technique can be used in the field of digital libraries (visualizing text and non-text information resources, visualizing the process of detecting information, visualizing the results of detecting, visualizing knowledge and the visualization user interface), results of web surfing, user interface, archives, detecting information, Scientometrics, the Web environment and analyzing social networks. Conclusion: based on this research, it seems necessary for librarians to become familiar with visualization techniques and applying them in various areas of providing information services.
