Katya Nikolaev, Marina Lagunov

Abstract

Among the events taken place in the twentieth century, the cold war and the beginning of a struggle and a long competition between the USA and the Soviet Union are of a special importance. It is necessary to study the issue because of the effects this event had on changes in the world and Europe as well as the role it played in the formation of the international systems and polarization of the world. The emergence of the socialist thoughts and the Russian Revolution, on the one hand, and the U.S. entry into the war and its role as a capitalist camp, on the other hand, resulted in the beginning of the cold war. The present paper is a descriptive-analytic study seeking to answer the questions: what is the cold war? How has it been defined in international relations? What are its causes and factors? What stages does it have and what consequences and effects had it has on the global relations
