Abstract

With increasing implementation time, projects can be fraught with a variety of risks. Therefore, reduction of implementation time is considered important because increasing implementation time can increase costs and reduce the project useful life. One of the main solutions to prevent prolonging project implementation is to anticipate and avoid delays which is not easy. To estimate factors affecting delays, one needs a tool to predict implementation problems and timelines which can be used to identify factors causing delays and to provide prevention solutions. The present study aimed to introduce building information modeling, its potential capabilities, and its application as a tool for precise project planning and delinquency prevention. In this regard, first problem statement and the problems caused by prolongation of implementation time were presented, and then building information modeling was introduced. Afterwards, library studies were used to identify factors causing delays; the main factors were selected using questionnaires and experts’ opinions. Finally, using comparative studies, we examined application of the building information modeling in avoiding each of these factors. This study intended to propose a model based on building information modeling in order to avoid project delays using library studies and experts’ opinions.
