The new approaches to strategic thinking consider it the creator of strategy rather than strategic planning, and this first idea has been formed in the field of strategic management that successful managers are the ones who use strategic thinking. On the other hand, literature in this field stresses the acquisition and possibility of teaching this way of thinking to senior managers of organizations. However, there is no comprehensive model of strategic thinking elements able to be used to measure managers, their level of strategic thinking, and training based on the results of it. Thus, by reviewing the literature regarding strategic thinking and extraction of related components, a comprehensive model of elements of strategic thinking has been presented that can be used for designing a comprehensive measurement tool for managers and planning for their training. Moreover, the developed model in this study can be the bail and starting point for future studies regarding strategic thinking and its relation to other forms of thinking, such as system thinking and entrepreneurial thinking.
