Design, simulation and manufacture of a prototype log-periodic antenna capable of simultaneously receiving two orthogonal polarizations within 1-4 GHz bandwidt

Abstract

The present study aimed to design, simulate, and manufacture a log-periodic antenna, and finally measure its parameters within 1-4 GHz bandwidth. In order to select the final design, we first reviewed the studies conducted on log-periodic antenna capable of receiving two orthogonal polarizations. Then, we examined the antenna performance and design equations. Afterwards, the antenna was designed and its performance was tested and simulated in a CST-Microwave environment. Finally, the antenna was manufactured and its various parameters, e.g. its pattern and VSWR, were measured. The measurement results were in good agreement with the simulation results and offered acceptable input VSWR values and radiation pattern.
