Decentralized control of reactive power for advanced distribution automation systems

Abstract

In the present study, we proposed a decentralized reactive power control scheme for optimal control of switched capacitor in system in order to minimize system losses and preserve voltage profile at an acceptable level. The proposed technique is based on placing a remote terminal unit (RTU) at each DG and on each line capacitor. These RTUs coordinate together through communication protocols, and form a multiagent system. A novel decentralized algorithm was proposed to estimate voltage profile changes due to reactive power injections into the capacitor bus. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate validity and efficiency the proposed technique.
