Assessing the Electronic Literacy and Investigating its relationship with the Future of the Business Activities in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME)

Abstract

The emergence of the novel technologies and their infiltration into the various aspects of the human life as well as their effects on the human lives have all opened the world residents’ eyes to new vistas that are influential on all the life aspects of the future generations as well as the 21st-century humans. In this way, the future jobs move towards a direction that they will be in need of novel skills and knowledge including the ability to work with the computer and entry to such an arena necessitates novel teachings, culture, and mindset. So, having the electronic knowledge which is the very literacy of reading, writing and the ability to perceive information via the electronic media is a necessity for performing activities in the entire fields including particularly in the business sector. The present study is a descriptive research which is of the applied format in terms of its objectives. The study tries to offer the perspectives of the experts and managers about the information technology skills and the communication skills required for the elevation of business activities level. To collect the information, there was made use of questionnaires as well as the archived data. The questions presented in the questionnaire have been prepared according to single variables and ICDL test given in the study conceptual model was applied for the data analysis part. In doing so, there was made use of the Global Foundation Modules plus the variables of ICDL. The results of the study indicate that from the perspective of the experts and the managers, the seven skills of the familiarity with the English language had a significant relationship with the business activities in small and medium-sized enterprises and the relationship intensity was as stated below: Spreadsheets, computer arrays, word processing, computer application concepts, familiarity and working with database, familiarity with internet use, Basic English in using computer and basic concepts of hardware
